Challenge and Needs
The Secure Trade in APEC Region (”START”) established several objectives for implementing or enhancing secure trade between member nations of the APEC region, including Indonesia.

As the STAR Initiative’s proponent, United States through USTDA seek to aid Indonesia’s maritime sector not only for purposes of developing supply chain security systems but also to introduce technology that will enhance trade efficieny.

Port security regulations are moving towards standardization through the International Maritime Organization (”IMO”) whose Maritime Safety Committee’s draft proposals offered control measure for port states modeled on safety regulations that are part of the Safety of Life at Sea Convention.
